The Keck School of Medicine (KSOM) Youth and Young Adults Workforce Academy was accompanied by KSOM and Keck Medicine leadership during their community service day at the weekly free food distribution at the Weingart YMCA in Boyle Heights. Twenty fellows from the surrounding USC Health Science Campus community, aged 18-24, are currently participating in an intensive 5-week workforce readiness training program at KSOM to prepare them for entering the workforce. The KSOM leadership represented various offices, including finance and faculty affairs, as well as the Keck Medical System Community Benefits Office, University Relations, the Physician Assistant Pathways program, and the Dean’s administration, all of which were present to support the Community at a critical time. The program is organized by the KSOM Dean’s office of Community and Workforce Development initiatives. Over 150 individuals received free fruits and vegetables from the fellows in the workforce academy, as well as health and wellness information from a team of community health educators from the Office of Community Outreach and Engagement, and access to pop-up wellness hubs of the USC Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center.
